Explanation

Eight names, like a garland. That Murugan expounded Tamil works sums up the tradition of him as the Tamil god. What we remember at the last breath is what we practised all our lives; so we must begin remembering today.

From the Valmiki Ramayana, Aranya Kandam

Jatayu's end

When Ravana carried Sita away, the old vulture king Jatayu fought to stop him. Ravana cut off his wings and he fell. Holding on to life until Rama came, Jatayu told him the direction Sita had been taken, and died in Rama's lap, remembering his name. Rama himself performed his last rites as a son would for a father. One who dies remembering the Lord suffers no fall.
