Mahabharata, Stri ParvaThe Iron Bhima
From the Mahabharata, Stri Parva. The Kurukshetra war was over. The Pandavas went with Krishna to meet the blind King Dhritarashtra, who had lost all hundred of his sons.
Though Dhritarashtra outwardly showed affection, his heart burned with rage against Bhima, who had killed Duryodhana. "I wish to embrace Bhima," he said. Sensing this, Krishna did not send Bhima forward, but set before the king an iron statue of Bhima that Duryodhana had made for practice.
Dhritarashtra crushed the statue in his embrace with his immense strength. Then he wept in remorse. Krishna's watchfulness showed that even an enemy's embrace should not be trusted without thought.
