Meaning

In every gathering where the devotees tell of the qualities of the Lord of Kurugai, in every crowd of them, we have had the blessing to be present. And sitting there, we had the blessing of tears flowing from our eyes. From now on, great joy grows just for us, the companions bound for liberation.

Explanation

This is in praise of satsang, the company of the good. Just to be where devotees gather and speak of the Alvar's qualities is a blessing; there, tears come by themselves.

Devotion shared in company has a power that devotion alone lacks. One person's tears call forth another's; one person's love spreads to all.

Srimad Bhagavatam, Book 1, Chapters 1-3

The Gathering of Sages at Naimisharanya

From the Srimad Bhagavatam. It was the dawn of the Kali age. In the holy forest of Naimisharanya, thousands of sages led by Shaunaka began a great sacrifice meant to last a thousand years.

One morning, when the rites were done, the great storyteller Suta arrived. The sages seated him on a high seat and asked: 'In the Kali age people will be short-lived and slothful. What is the simplest good for them? Tell us the stories of Krishna. However much we hear, we will never have enough.'

Pleased, Suta told them the whole Bhagavatam that Shuka had told Parikshit. The sages listened with tears in their eyes. The stories heard in that gathering are the Bhagavatam we have today. Kambar's joy, to sit among devotees and hear God's qualities, is the same.
