Meaning

When spoken, the written sign may perish; but in whatever language it is said, the meaning does not waver at all. Hear it: the Lord, His grace, the soul, the veiling, and the malam: these are the order of the faultless five letters.

Explanation

This is the philosophical meaning of the five letters: si is Shiva, va is grace (Shakti), ya is the soul, na is tirodhana (veiling) and ma is the malam. A letter is only a sign; what it points to always is. So to recite the five letters is to recall the truth of all three: the Lord, the soul and the bond. The soul (ya) stands in the middle: on one side grace and Shiva, on the other veiling and the malam.

To reflect on

If we are the 'ya' standing in the middle, which way did we turn today?
