Explanation

'Like the heart of a cow for her calf' is an image Manikkavasagar also uses in the Thiruvasagam: 'I long to melt and soften like the heart of a mother cow.' As a cow parted from her calf thinks of it, her milk flowing, and melts, so the devotee is to melt in thinking of the Lord. Though Unmai Vilakkam is a book of philosophy, it ends in tender devotion. That knowledge and love are never apart is the special mark of Shaiva Siddhanta.
