Unmai Vilakkam 49 · சென்று இவன் தான் ஒன்றில் சிவபூரணம் சிதையும்
சென்று இவன் தான் ஒன்றில் சிவபூரணம் சிதையும்அன்றுஅவன் தான் ஒன்றுமெனில் அன்னியமாம் – இன்றுஇரண்டும்அற்ற நிலை ஏதுஎன்னில் ஆதித்தன் அந்தன்விழிக்குற்றம் அற நின்றதுபோல் கொள்.

பொருள்
ஆன்மா சென்று சிவத்தோடு ஒன்றாகிவிட்டால் சிவத்தின் பூரணம் (நிறைவு) சிதையும்; சிவன் தானே வந்து ஆன்மாவோடு ஒன்றுகிறான் என்றால் இரண்டும் அயலானவை ஆகும். இன்று இரண்டும் அற்ற அந்நிலை எது என்றால், பார்வைக் குறை நீங்கிய குருடனின் கண்ணோடு சூரியன் நிற்பது போல் என்று கொள்.
Meaning
If the soul went and became one with Shiva, Shiva's fullness would be broken; if Shiva came and joined the soul, the two would be strangers to each other. If you ask what that state free of both is, take it as the sun standing with the eye of a blind man whose defect has been cured.

அத்துவிதத்தின் உண்மைப் பொருளை இப்பாடல் நுட்பமாகச் சொல்கிறது. ஆன்மா சிவனாகிவிட்டால், சிவன் முன்பு குறையுள்ளவனாக இருந்தான் என்றாகும்; அல்லது ஆன்மா அழிந்துவிடும். இரண்டும் இரு வேறு பொருள்களாகச் சேர்ந்தால், அது அத்துவிதம் அன்று. சரியான உவமை: குருடனின் கண் குணமானதும் சூரிய ஒளியோடு இணைந்து காண்கிறது. கண் சூரியன் ஆவதில்லை; சூரியனும் கண் ஆவதில்லை; ஆனாலும் காணும் அனுபவத்தில் இரண்டும் பிரிவதில்லை. ஆணவம் என்ற நோய் நீங்கியதும் ஆன்மா சிவத்தோடு இப்படி இணைகிறது.
Explanation
This verse states the true meaning of advaita with great subtlety. If the soul became Shiva, either Shiva was lacking before or the soul would be destroyed. If the two joined as two separate things, it would not be advaita. The right image is this: when a blind man's eye is cured, it sees joined with the sun's light. The eye does not become the sun, nor the sun the eye, yet in the act of seeing the two are not apart. When the disease of anavam is healed, the soul is joined with Shiva in this way.
