Valmiki Ramayana, Sundara KandaSita's Blade of Grass
From the Valmiki Ramayana, Sundara Kanda. To Sita, held captive in the Ashoka grove of Lanka, Ravana displayed his wealth and kingdom and begged her to accept him; then he threatened her.
Sita would not even look at him directly. Placing a blade of grass between herself and him, she answered as if speaking to it: "My heart belongs to Rama alone. Return to the path of dharma; if you surrender to Rama, he will forgive you. Otherwise you will perish."
Ravana gave her a deadline of two months and set the rakshasis to terrify her. Yet Sita did not move an atom from her path. That steadfast hold on goodness won in the end.
