Meaning

O Kanda, Muruga of the spear! I see no refuge at all. Loving this false life that runs on like a river, my mind burns here, cursing again and again the fate that sent me out to stagger under this bundle of a body tied up with sinews.

Explanation

This is not a sage's certainty but the honest lament of a suffering man. Arunagirinathar does not hide his dark moments. That honesty connects us to him; and even the lament is addressed to Murugan.

From the Mahabharata, Adi Parva

Yayati's desire

By a sage's curse, King Yayati grew old while still young. He borrowed youth from his son Puru and enjoyed pleasures for a thousand years. At last he realised: 'Pouring ghee on fire does not put it out but makes it blaze more; desire too is never quenched by indulgence.' He returned his son's youth, went to the forest and did penance. In a life that runs on like a river, attachment never ends by itself.
