ஒருவன் கடுங்கோபத்தோடு கொடுஞ்சொற்களைப் பேசி மயக்க முயன்றாலும், மனம் பிரியாமல் துளக்கமின்றி நிற்பவரே தூய மனத்தார். அவர் விளக்கினுள் உள்ள ஒளிரும் சுடர் போன்றவர்.

Even if a man speaks cruel words in fury and tries to confound them, those whose minds do not break away and who do not waver are the pure in heart. They are like a shining flame inside a lamp.

The calm of the pure in heart is of that kind — it does not answer back, does not move, and holds as something that cannot be thrown out from outside. No word from without can enter and put the flame out.
