Mahabharata, Adi ParvaThe Eye of the Bird
From the Mahabharata, Adi Parva. To test his students, Drona placed an artificial bird on the branch of a tree. "Aim at the eye of that bird," he said.
First he asked Yudhishthira, "What do you see?" He replied, "The tree, the branches, the bird, you, my brothers." Drona told him to step aside. The others too named many things.
Then came Arjuna's turn. "What do you see?" "I see only the eye of the bird," he said. "Shoot," said Drona, and the arrow pierced the eye. It was his unwavering mind that made Arjuna the finest of archers.
