Mahabharata, Virata ParvaPrince Uttara's Boast
From the Mahabharata, Virata Parva. While King Virata was away with his army, the Kauravas raided the northern part of the kingdom and drove off its cattle. Prince Uttara boasted before the palace women: "If only I had a good charioteer, I would defeat Bhishma, Drona and Karna all by myself and bring back the cattle!"
Arjuna, in disguise as Brihannala, offered to drive his chariot. But on the battlefield, seeing the vast army of Kaurava champions, Uttara trembled, leapt from the chariot and ran.
Arjuna caught him, set him in the charioteer's seat, and fought and defeated the Kauravas himself. The prince who had exaggerated learned that day that true valour lies in deeds, not words.
