Srimad Bhagavatam, Tenth CantoThe Syamantaka Jewel
From the Srimad Bhagavatam, Tenth Canto. A Yadava named Satrajit had received from the Sun a radiant jewel called Syamantaka. His brother Prasena wore it on a hunt and never returned.
People began to whisper, "Krishna must have killed him for the jewel." Unwilling to bear that blame, Krishna went into the forest with the townspeople to search. He found that a lion had killed Prasena, and that Jambavan had killed the lion and carried off the jewel.
Krishna fought Jambavan in his cave for twenty-eight days and prevailed; Jambavan recognised him as Rama and gave him the jewel and his daughter Jambavati. Krishna returned the jewel to Satrajit before everyone and fully cleared the blame that had fallen on him.
