Srimad Bhagavatam, Tenth CantoKrishna Dances on Kaliya
From the Srimad Bhagavatam, Tenth Canto. The many-headed serpent Kaliya lived in a pool of the Yamuna. His poison made the water seethe; cows and cowherds who drank it fell unconscious, and even the trees on the bank withered.
The boy Krishna leapt into the pool. Kaliya coiled around him, but Krishna broke free, climbed onto his hoods and danced. Kaliya's pride and strength were subdued.
Kaliya's wives bowed and pleaded. Krishna did not kill him, but commanded, "Leave these waters and go to the sea." Kaliya left the Yamuna, and the river once again became life-giving water for all.
