Explanation

Do nothing unseemly or base. Grace here does not mean good looks; it means the grace of conduct and character.

Acts that humiliate others, that degrade women and the weak, are the greatest ugliness a person can show. Whoever commits such deeds will fall, however strong he may be.

Mahabharata, Sabha Parva

Draupadi in the Assembly Hall

From the Mahabharata, Sabha Parva. In the game of dice, Yudhishthira lost everything, and at last staked and lost Draupadi too. On Duryodhana's order, Dushasana dragged Draupadi by her hair into the assembly hall.

Draupadi asked the assembly, "Having lost himself, did he have any right to stake me?" The elders bowed their heads in silence. Dushasana tried to strip her of her garment; she called on Krishna, and the cloth grew without end and guarded her honour.

That day Bhima vowed, "For this deed I will tear open Dushasana's chest," and at Kurukshetra he fulfilled it. That single unseemly act became the seed of an empire's ruin.
