வால்மீகி இராமாயணம், கிஷ்கிந்தா காண்டத்திலிருந்து. வாலியின் மறைவுக்குப் பின் சுக்ரீவன் முடிசூடினான். அப்போது மழைக்காலம் தொடங்கியது. சீதையைத் தேட உடனே புறப்பட வேண்டும் என்று இராமன் மனம் துடித்தது.
ஆனால் இராமன் லட்சுமணனிடம் சொன்னான்: “இது படையெடுப்புக்கான காலம் அல்ல. மழையில் பாதைகள் மூடியிருக்கும், ஆறுகள் பெருக்கெடுத்திருக்கும். சரத் காலம் வரட்டும்.” பிரஸ்ரவண மலைக் குகையில் சீதையை நினைத்து வருந்தியபடியே நான்கு மாதங்கள் பொறுத்திருந்தான்.
மழை முடிந்து வானம் தெளிந்ததும், வானரப் படைகள் நான்கு திசைகளிலும் புறப்பட்டன. பருவம் பார்த்துத் தொடங்கிய அந்தத் தேடலே சீதையைக் கண்டுபிடித்தது.
