Explanation

Do not build a house larger than you need. If one builds a big house for show, one's life is spent just maintaining it.

A home's greatness is not in its size but in the love and hospitality that live in it. A great heart can live in a small house.

Mahabharata, Udyoga Parva

Krishna at Vidura's Home

From the Mahabharata, Udyoga Parva. Krishna came to Hastinapura as an envoy of peace to prevent the war. Duryodhana prepared a grand feast in his palace and invited him.

Krishna declined: "One may eat food offered with love, or eat out of hunger. You have shown no love, and I am not hungry." Leaving the palace full of hostility, he went to Vidura's simple home.

There he ate the food Vidura offered with love and stayed the night. The Lord of the worlds did not choose the great palace, but the simple house filled with love.
